19世紀ロシア文学読解（1）
ドストエフスキー『罪と罰』（1866）はまずもって哲学思想小説とされ、そこで描かれる殺人は、理性的に組み立てられた超人思想の帰結だとされる。だが殺人を正当化する抽象的な思想は、小説テクストにおいてそれ自体として独立して語られるものではない。殺人という「逸脱」行動には、心身の病や環境といった生理学的・医学的・社会経済的な動機づけもなされている。かつて宗教的・道徳的罪や悪霊の憑依とされた逸脱行動は、近代になり体系的に、法的対象（違法行為）、つづいて医療対象（病）として理解されるようになった。アルコール中毒、売春、動物虐待、窃盗、殺人などの逸脱行動に満ちたドストエフスキーの小説は、こうした合理的理解や決定論・実証主義への言説転換を反映しつつも、同時に、「悪」をそうした理解に還元することへの反発や不可能性を組み込んでいるのであり、思想や意志の問題も、そのような文脈のなかで現れる。
本演習では、近年のドストエフスキー研究等を参照し、熱病、偏執狂、精神錯乱、疫病といった病の表現に着目しながら、『罪と罰』を医学的・法的・宗教的言説の境界上にあるものとして読んでいきたい。

ロシア・ソ連小説評論読解（2）
ロシア語で書かれたテクストの講読を通して、亡命ロシア文学について学びます。今学期は、ロシア革命後に亡命した作家のうち、亡命先で本格的な執筆活動を開始した世代の文学を扱います。特に、ナボコフの「フィアルタの春」を中心に進めていく予定です。テクスト分析とともに、チェーホフなどのロシア文学の伝統との対話にも目を向けることで、若い世代の亡命作家におけるロシアや亡命文学における記憶といった問題について理解を深めることができます。

本授業では、前半にトルストイ『アンナ・カレーニナ』に関する論文を読みながら、物語における視点の移動、見え方の偏り、理解の遅れや思い込みなどを手がかりに、小説における「ものの見方」の形成過程を考える。筋立てそのものよりも、登場人物や読者が出来事をどのように認識し、どのように意味づけていくのかに注目する。
後半では、参加者各自が関心をもつ他の作家の作品を取り上げ、前半で学んだ論点をふまえて比較読解を行う。同じ問いがどのように当てはまるのか、あるいはどの点で異なるのかを検討しながら、文学作品が私たちの認識や受容の仕方にどのように働きかけるのかを考察する。

統合物質科学俯瞰講義Ⅱ
広く産学官にわたってグローバルに活躍するために必要な「俯瞰力」を養成することを目指す。物質科学の各分野について最先端の知識を修得し、自分の専門分野と周辺分野がどのように関連するか、あるいはし得るか、について深く考察するために、第一線で活躍する講師の方々にその分野の最前線を概観していただく。さらに、それらの講義を通して異分野間のコミュニケーションを円滑に進めるための具体的方法論を学ぶ。
This survey course is designed to enable students to develop the broad perspective that is required of global leaders working in and across industry, academia, and government. Students will gain knowledge and insight on advancements in each field of materials science research, given by leading researchers working on the frontline in those fields. This will allow students to consider how peripheral fields are related to their own area of expertise, and to consider the potential for forging bridges between related fields in the future. In addition, students will learn specific methodologies designed to facilitate smooth communication among different disciplines.

Special Lecture on Global Society IV
The first objective of the course if for students to acquire conceptual, theoretical, and empirical knowledge of autocratization in current global politics. The concept of autocratization will be discussed and contrasted to that of democratization. Students will learn and discuss how autocratization is measured by leading independent assessing institutions (e.g. V-Dem, EUI, Freedom House).
The second objective of the course is for students to acquire conceptual, theoretical, and empirical knowledge of the meanings, causes, and effects of populism as well as its historical and current character in various contexts. Thereby, students will be able to understand the role of populism, if any, in countries undergoing a reversal in the quality of democracy. The students will also develop the ability to assess different academic perspectives on populism and to independently and critically analyze populist rhetoric, as well as the social, economic and political conditions that promotes the growth of populism. The course includes and analyzes prominent recent examples of populist leaders and regimes, including tools they have used to come to power and keep it.

批判的死生学
この演習の目的は、死と社会、文化との関連について、政治・経済的観点を踏まえながら、批判的に考察する能力を養うことである。今期は、Death Studies, Mortality, Omegaなど死生学を専門とする学術雑誌の論文を読むと同時に、学術論文の形式を学ぶことを目指す。
The purpose of this seminar is to develop the ability to critically examine the relationship between death, society, and culture, taking into account political and economic perspectives. This semester, students will read articles from journals specializing in death and life studies, such as Death Studies, Mortality, and Omega, as well as learn about the format of academic writing.

Seminar on Global Society III
This is a course on visual culture in the 20th and 21st century, with a particular focus on the interplay between media technology, culture and society. This course will also be multidisciplinary in nature, as we reflect on our discursive assumptions in the historical, sociological, anthropological, philosophical disciplines among others. While the readings may primarily cover phenomenon in the United States, participants will be strongly encouraged to think of the specificity of the impact of globalization on media and society in various regions of the world including Japan.
The course objectives are the following:
-Gain a better understanding of the relationships between society, media, people, institutions and how they function as agents of maintaining the status quo or for fostering change
-Learn about the transformative faculties and social implications of quotidian applications of technology
-Gain deeper understanding of the academic disciplines
Topics will include (but are not limited to):
-representation of human-computer interaction in culture
-regional, transnational and international ecosystems of information technology
-artificial intelligence and algorithmic bias
-representation of race, ethnicity and gender and other minorities
-technological advancement and implementation in everyday life and the powers at play
