最適化とその応用について講述する．最適化（数理計画）とは，意思決定のための数理手法の一つである．最適化では，与えられた条件を満たす解のうち，ある関数を最小（または最大）にするものを求める．工学における多くの問題が，このような最適化問題として定式化できる．この講義では，最適化におけるいくつかの基本的な問題を取り上げ，それらがもつ性質と解法とを説明するとともに，それらの応用を紹介する．

Operations Research (O.R.) is the application of scientific and mathematical methods to the study and analysis of problems involving complex systems (according to The Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences). Among many mathematical methods and tools in O.R., the most fundamental is the concept of optimization. It is to search for the best choice among possible alternatives under certain conditions and constraints. In the mathematical language, it is to maximize or minimize a given objective function by controlling decision variables under the set of constraints. Optimization theory is also a part of applied mathematics, and is widely employed in academic disciplines that deal with mathematical modeling of human decision making. In particular, it plays an essential role in economics for its descriptions of economic decision making and valuation. In this lecture, students will learn the theories of mathematical optimization as methods in O.R. The lecture starts with the theory of static optimization with nonlinear settings. It moves on to linear setting, discussing a specific method. The third part of the lecture discusses the theory of dynamic optimization.

時間とともに変化する対象を記録したデータが時系列である。時系列は、生体信号、地震波、インターネットログ、株価、センサーデータなど分野を超えて現れる。時系列から、その背後にある複雑な現象を理解し、予測、制御や意思決定を行う方法論が時系列解析である。この講義では、時系列の分析に必要となる、1. 可視化、2. 記述的分析、3. 統計モデルを用いた分析、を説明する。本講義では、時系列の分析手法やモデリング技術の基本アイデアを中心に解説する。本講義の目標は、時系列分析の手法を理解した上で、時系列データに対して適切な分析ができるようになることである。

流体力学の基礎から応用について概説する。基本的な偏微分方程式を概説して、流体の運動を記述する基礎方程式であるNavier-Stokes方程式の導出を行う。次に、流体の乱流を取り上げ、層流からの遷移過程と発達した乱流の特性を、そのスーパー台風等の渦構造を中心として示す。特に、乱流の制御手法の一つである高分子の添加を取り上げ、ベクトルの反変・共変性に着目した解析について講義を行い、熱対流との関連性に言及する。
