Science, technology, and innovation (STI) shape the foundation of the contemporary society and thus make a major arena of public policy. The complex nature of the STI system poses various challenges, and effective policymaking approaches have been explored and developed. Evidence-based policy making (EBPM) is one such approach that is expected to address the challenges and has been implemented in STI policy design, although it has its own challenges and limitations. In this course, students are expected to learn the context of STI and the basis of EBPM as well as to learn how EBPM can be applied to STI policy design.

広く産学官にわたってグローバルに活躍するために必要な「俯瞰力」を養成することを目指す。物質科学の各分野について最先端の知識を修得し、自分の専門分野と周辺分野がどのように関連するか、あるいはし得るか、について深く考察するために、第一線で活躍する講師の方々にその分野の最前線を概観していただく。さらに、それらの講義を通して異分野間のコミュニケーションを円滑に進めるための具体的方法論を学ぶ。 This survey course is designed to enable students to develop the broad perspective that is required of global leaders working in and across industry, academia, and government. Students will gain knowledge and insight on advancements in each field of materials science research, given by leading researchers working on the frontline in those fields. This will allow students to consider how peripheral fields are related to their own area of expertise, and to consider the potential for forging bridges between related fields in the future. In addition, students will learn specific methodologies designed to facilitate smooth communication among different disciplines.

In this seminar, students are expected to examine research in various fields such as resources, environment and energy, health and medicine, space and ocean, security, global economy, food and life, AI and digitalization, and learning and communication in relation to various social issues, and attempt to design solutions (technical and institutional solutions) to social issues in concrete ways. In doing so, students will consciously consider what other fields of knowledge are necessary in addition to the knowledge in their own field of expertise, and students will attempt to compare various solution options. Students will also examine the challenges of implementing such solutions in society.

The origin of life remains a mystery that humans have yet to elucidate. And due to the complexity of this puzzle, multiple disciplines will have to converge to provide credible explanations. Furthermore, given that the boundaries between the scientific disciplines are superficial, it is essential that scientists are trained to think across multiple disciplines. In this course, students will learn about the chemical tools and molecular methods that have been used to explain biological systems. This course is designed for undergraduates and graduates with an interest in understanding the scientific discoveries and problems that lie at the chemistry-biology and chemistry-medicine interfaces. Comprehensive support will be provided for those concerned about their level of English.

建築情報学の視点から、建築や都市にかかわるデジタル空間記述と情報技術の現状と特徴、体系を概観し、特に次世代の動的空間記述の可能性として、ゲームエンジンを活用したコモングラウンドの概念とその活用可能性、周辺の産業領域との連携の在り方について講義を行う。後半は前半の講義にもとづいてグループにわかれて社会実装を念頭に置いた提案型のグループワークを行い、新しい概念の実装における課題と手法を簡易な形で体験する。 From the perspective of Architectural Informatics, this lecture provides an overview of the current state, characteristics, and various systems of digital spatial descriptions and information technologies related to architecture and urban environments. It particularly explores the potential of next-gen dynamic spatial descriptions, focusing on the concept of the "Common Ground" utilizing game engines and its applicability, as well as approaches to collaboration with surrounding industrial fields. In the latter half, based on the content of the first half, students will be divided into groups for proposal-based group work with an emphasis on social implementation, allowing them to experience the challenges and methods involved in implementing new concepts.
