The class studies business/technical strategy and product development. Even though the first part of the class title says "management of technology..”, it will cover broader scope of business strategy since business and technology are tightly integrated today. We will first study the basic concepts of business strategy covering strategic positioning, organizational capabilities, and major strategy frameworks with examples. Then, we will look at key strategy frameworks in fast changing environment that has become critical in the current age. We will then shift our focus to product development, and will study basics of product development with emphasis on the evolution of product development processes and product lifecycle. We will then look at digital products and study the notions of product discovery and delivery that have become increasingly prevalent today. The class will close by looking at the implications of digital technology to major strategic frameworks studied in the class.
