This course covers principles and topics related to environmental sciences important for the development of the world. Global and local environmental issues related to climate change, agriculture and marine environment, will be introduced in the course.

The class studies business/technical strategy and product development. Even though the first part of the class title says "technology management”, it will cover broader scope of business and technical strategy since business and technology are tightly coupled and inseparable today for technology driven business. We will first study the basic concepts of business strategy covering strategic positioning, organizational capabilities, and major strategy frameworks with examples. Then, we will look at key strategy frameworks in fast changing environment that has become critical in the current age. We will then shift our focus to product development. Topics to cover here include history of product development, evolution of product development processes, product life-cycles, product architecture and platform, and continuous value creation. We will spend more time particularly on the topic of continuous value creation as this is a latest important trend. In this context, we will study the concept of product discovery and delivery. The class will use lectures and group work with exercise, case studies and mini project to enforce the understanding of the subjects by students. Lectures will be given in English, and all materials used will also be in English. Group work including discussions and presentations can be done either in Japanese or in English with the choice of each student. 「技術ロードマッピング」とは将来の社会の課題や市場のニーズと技術の将来予測に基づき、技術開発の方向性をロードマップの形で表現することによって技術と経営を統合する方法論である。この手法は近年モビリティ、エネルギー、AI、バイオテクノロジーなどの先進分野で特に注目、活用されている。 国・業界団体・国際機関の技術政策や企業の技術戦略を記述する「技術ロードマッピング（Technology Roadmapping）」について、その手法の全体像、概要を体系的に理解し、具体演習により実践の肌感覚・現場感を獲得することを通じて、経営視点から技術戦略を立案する基礎力を養う
