This class will examine issues of media representation and discrimination, freedom and equality from the standpoint of sociology and social constructionism, using the pornography controversy in North America during the 1980s and 1990s as a case study. The first three (or four) lectures will outline sociological approaches to media representation. This will be followed by group discussions among participants on the current state of media regulation and representation, using the anti-pornography movement of second-wave feminism and the jurisprudential opposition to it.

OVERVIEW
Antiquarianism, the love and study of old artifacts, has flourished in various periods and societies. Through reading scholarly texts and discussion, this class will explore the development of antiquarianism in the late Tokugawa period (late 18C – early 19C) and its influence on the modern disciplines of archaeology, history, art history, and museology. It also aims to put Japanese antiquarianism in the global context by comparing it with similar movements in other regions. As a way to supplement the reduced class hours, students will be required to visit a designated exhibition (“Modern Images of Ancient Clay Figures” at the National Museum of Modern Art). In addition to completing reading assignments and contribution to class discussions, students will be required to give one or two presentations and write a term paper. Through these activities, this course aims to provide students with an opportunity to read texts and observe the world critically.
COURSE OBJECTIVES
1) Deepen knowledge of history and culture.
2) Develop analytical skills through reading scholarly arguments and sources.
3) Give accurate presentations and write coherent essays.

Overview of Chemical Bioengineering
The behaviors of biosystems are well-regulated and controlled by interactions between various functional biomolecules such as DNA, RNA and proteins in different hierarchies: cells, tissues and organs. On the firm basis on chemistry, the research in the chemical bioengineering field is focused on the structure and functions of these biomolecules, and on the mechanisms for regulating and controlling the biosystems through such molecules. The research is also focused on the innovative technology development for design, synthesis and control of high performance cells, tissues and organs through artificial designing, alteration, modification and systematization of functional biomolecules. Finally, we aim at applying these technologies to the medical treatment field.

物性物理学の基本となる量子多体問題の基本的概念と、それらが重要になる物性物理学におけるさまざまな現象を議論する。具体的なトピックとしては、いわゆる第２量子化による量子多体状態の記述、準粒子、フォノン，マグノンなどの素励起，超伝導，近藤効果，磁性体，など。
We how to treat quantum many-body problems in condensed matter physics. Specifically, we will look at Hartree-Fock approximation, quasi-particles such as phonons and magnons, and typical quantum phenomena such as superconductivity, Kondo effect, magnetism, etc.

We study measure-theoretic probability theory and its applications to economic theory. We first cover introductory topics on measure theory (measure and integral) and then delve into probability measures on metric spaces. If time permits, we read journal articles on large economies or infinite games and on games with incomplete information.
