東南アジア地域文化研究
この授業で試みるのは、東南アジア史に触れつつも、文学作品や芸術表現から東南アジア史を考えなおしてみることです。開発や経済発展という観点から歴史を見られることが多いのですが、そのような観点からは見ると、どうしても進んだ社会と遅れた社会という尺度が入り込んできてしまいます。他方、現在は歴史の転換点です。近未来であれば、どのようになるのかが分からない不確実な時代と言えます。このような時代だからこそ、文学作品や芸術表現を通して、過去に人々がどのような不安や夢を持っていたのかを考えてみたいと思います。
In this course, we will explore Southeast Asian history while reexamining it through literary works and artistic expressions. History is often viewed from the perspectives of development and economic progress, but such viewpoints tend to introduce a framework that categorizes societies as either advanced or backward. However, we are currently at a historical turning point—a time of uncertainty where the future remains unpredictable. Precisely because we are in such an era, I would like to use literature and artistic expressions to reflect on the anxieties and dreams that people in the past held.

This workshop is for graduate students who are aiming to write a thesis in the fields of area studies and political economy. Participants must report the themes and focal points of their theses, intermediary results of their study, and the final outcome, which will be commented by the lecturers and other participants. Young scholars working on regional studies will be invited to present their latest studies.

This course marks the 15th year of Professor Hideyuki Akaza’s "Cross-boundary Studies." As Japan reaches 80 years since the end of World War II, it continues to advance as a leading nation in addressing the challenges of an aging society. Amidst urbanization, regional disparities, and growing diversity, the country must engage with Asia to achieve well-being on a broader scale. A multifaceted approach is essential, integrating next-generation probiotics research and innovative health models into social implementation. This course will analyze the current state of healthcare and well-being, support the implementation of health education in communities, schools, and workplaces, and promote interdisciplinary education programs for future leaders. Over the past three years, collaboration with Malaysia’s National Cancer Society (NCSM) has facilitated interdisciplinary cancer research. Building on these insights, a side event will be hosted at the ASEAN Summit in Malaysia this September to share Japan’s expertise and contribute to the establishment of a sustainable healthcare system. The knowledge cultivated in this course aims to serve as a foundation for international dialogue and collaboration across Asia.

特殊講義「経済学と地域研究」
新自由主義とグローバリズム、因果推論の時代に、ラテンアメリカ経済を論じることの意味、さらには地域性を問わない経済学の強みと弱みについて、歴史を振り返りながら考察することを目標とする。定評あるラテンアメリカ経済論のテキスト、および今日のラテンアメリカで重要なテーマを扱った学術論文を読む。授業は講義形式とするが、後半にディスカッションの時間も設ける。
