This course will introduce the students to the basic principles and theory of environmental and resource economics, including economic interpretations of pollution control targets, economic instruments of pollution control, cost-benefit analysis, environmental valuation, optimality of resource use, and theoretical underpinnings for economic indicators of sustainability. While the main focus of the course is basic theory, it will also discuss actual environmental problems and discussions of environmental policies (e.g., climate change, emissions trading, resource curse, Green GDP).
