Nuclear Reactor Engineering

Course Objectives:
In this course, students will study the fundamental theories and recent developments in nuclear engineering and critically examine the technical challenges and future prospects of next-generation reactors. Through this process, the course aims to develop students’ ability to acquire specialized knowledge using English literature, as well as their capacity to independently identify research questions and formulate logical discussions and proposals.

Course Overview:
This course is conducted primarily through guided reading of an English-language textbook and student presentations, providing a systematic understanding of nuclear engineering from fundamental principles to practical applications. Class discussions are incorporated to deepen comprehension. In the latter half of the course, students will undertake individual or group projects focused on next-generation reactors, with the objective of cultivating the ability to apply theoretical concepts and knowledge acquired from the textbook to real-world engineering challenges.

This course is structured around guided reading and comprehension of an English-language textbook, complemented by in-class student presentations to promote the systematic development of specialized knowledge in nuclear engineering. Class discussions are also incorporated to reinforce understanding. In the latter half of the course, students will engage in individual or group projects focused on next-generation reactors, with the aim of cultivating practical skills in applying the theories and knowledge acquired from the textbook.
Active participation will be highly valued and comprehensively evaluated based on contributions during class, engagement in discussions, as well as the quality of presentations and written reports.
Students are expected to preview the assigned materials for each class in advance and attend the lectures with a solid understanding of key technical terms and fundamental concepts. When assigned to give a presentation, students should prepare their presentation materials and practice thoroughly, as presentations will be conducted in English. After each class, students are also encouraged to review the lecture and discussion content, including feedback provided, in order to reinforce their understanding.
