Students will acquire control engineering concepts of linear feedback systems, which are instrumental in understanding the behavior of complex systems, including social systems. In classical control theory, system characteristics are represented by transfer functions derived from Laplace transforms; this course focuses on understanding the relationship between these transfer functions and the behavior of physical systems. Furthermore, students will learn that the essence of control system design lies in obtaining desired response characteristics by manipulating the positions of characteristic roots. Additionally, the course provides an introduction to modern control theory based on state-space representation and presents the control of underwater robots as a practical application.

Grading Policy: Grades will be determined based on class participation (including in-class exercises) and the results of the final exam, which will be conducted in person during the last session. Final Exam Policy: The final exam is open-book and open-note; students are permitted to bring and refer to laptops, handouts, and textbooks. The use of software such as MATLAB and Excel, as well as web resources including generative AI, is also permitted. Weighting: These two components will each account for 40% to 60% of the total grade.
