/Fundamentals of quantum mechanics essential for understanding the properties of materials (electrical, optical, etc.) are explained. The goal is to understand how the quantum mechanical worldview differs from everyday intuition and to develop the ability to see the behavior of electrons and atoms within materials. Specifically, students should be able to explain the quantum mechanical characteristics (differences from classical mechanics) relevant to the problem at hand, solve the Schrödinger equation for the free electron model, and interpret the results.

Lectures
/Primarily the final exam. Grades from each quizzes at every class will also be factored in.
/The course assumes prior completion of fundamentals of linear algebra, differential equations, and classical mechanics.
/Faculty with research and development experience in private industry will deliver lectures on quantum mechanics, drawing on their practical expertise.
