[Important]
Attendance at the information session for the International Collaborative Practicum scheduled for October is mandatory. During this session, a pre-registration form required for enrolling in this course will be shared, so please be sure to attend.
This course is a project-based class in which students collaborate with Japanese language learners at Princeton University to complete a variety of tasks. The course consists of three components: lectures, international communication practice sessions, and a final presentation. The primary language used in the course is English; however, students will use both English and Japanese when interacting with students from Princeton University. Through exchanges that cross national and disciplinary boundaries, the course aims to develop the language skills and intercultural communication abilities necessary to operate in a global environment. In addition, by engaging in projects that focus on diversity within cultures—rather than simply comparing countries at a superficial level—students will develop the perspectives and attitudes necessary to become truly global citizens.
The course particularly aims to achieve the following objectives:
1. Through projects that focus on diversity within each culture, students will develop deeper intercultural understanding that goes beyond superficial comparisons between countries such as Japan and the United States.
2. Students will understand the significance of English as a Lingua Franca in international contexts and improve their English communication skills through practical use.
3. Students will acquire the cultural, social, and pragmatic knowledge necessary for effective intercultural communication.
4. Students will develop the ability to reflect on and critically examine their own culture and language.
5. Students will develop the ability to communicate in Japanese in ways that are clear and accessible to Japanese language learners.
