グローバルリーダー育成プログラム科目(GLC-II:イノベーティブな問題解決)

Innovative Problem Solving
This course teaches students a systematic approach to problem-solving, innovation, and decision-making. Initially, students grasp the significance of analyzing and defining the problem space, identifying constraints on the solution, and recognizing obstacles to overcome. Subsequently, students explore various methods to generate a diverse range of creative solutions including the use of heuristics and other tools that produce divergent and convergent thinking. Finally, the course teaches students about different decision-making frameworks to assess and determine the most viable solutions in the face of limited information.

Course Objectives & Learning Outcomes
#emotional-intelligence: Utilize emotional intelligence to interact effectively.
#audience: Tailor oral and written work by considering the situation and perspective of the people receiving it.
#confidence: Approach projects and communications with an appropriate level of confidence.
#gap-analysis: Identify and evaluate whether there are suitable existing solutions to a problem or whether a
creative new solution is required.
#constraints: Identify and apply constraint satisfaction as a way to solve problems.
#iterative-design: Apply design research processes and iterative design thinking to conceive and refine products or solutions.
#divergent-convergent: Apply or evaluate an ideation or problem solving process using approaches that effectively incorporate divergent and/or convergent thinking.
#heuristics: Identify when to use heuristics and when to avoid them.
#right-problem: Characterize the nature of the problem.
#break-it-down: Organize problems into tractable components and design solutions.

授業の方法
PRE-CLASS WORK Students, as autonomous learners, must prepare in advance before each class. Required pre-class readings are relevant to the session activities and will be used in the session as background understanding or as material to which students can apply the Learning Outcomes. Each reading contains a brief Why/Use section providing guidance for students on what to read and how to read the piece. Additional pre-class preparatory work may be included, where relevant. ACTIVE LEARNING SEMINARS. Active-learning seminars include introductions of Learning Outcomes and Activity Learning Goals; preparatory assessment / peer instruction (e.g. polls, discussions) designed to engage student’s pre-class reading and preparation; activities (e.g. breakouts with debriefs, polls, all-class discussions or debate); and elements guiding students to synthesize lesson material (e.g. closure moments, reflection polls, synthesis discussions). INDIVIDUAL AND EXPERIENTIAL ASSIGNMENTS Individual and experiential assignments include assignment descriptions, Learning Outcomes, student instructions, faculty instructions, scheduling, weighting, and grading guidelines for faculty.
成績評価方法
This course uses a five-point grading scale (of A+, A, B, C, or F). If you wish to use pass/fail grading, please enrol under the course code ending "PF" Your final grade will be based on a combination of: a. Individual Reflection Assignment (35%) b. Team-based consulting project (35%) c. Class attendance and active participation (30%) Students will be evaluated based on their effort and contribution in the class and not only by English proficiency. All students are encouraged to join the course!
履修上の注意
IMPORTANT Please do not wait for UTAS to open to register for this class. Only students enrolled in the Global Leadership Course (GLC-I: Leadership Foundation) are eligible for this course and will receive registration instructions via email from the GLP-I office in early September. To register, students must complete the email questionnaire and separately register on UTAS during the period specified by their college, faculty, or graduate school. Students should check their GLC-I grades upon release. While registration for GLC-II or Capstone (other GLP-I completion requirements, applicable for undergraduate students only) is possible before official grade publication, your registration will be canceled if you didn't take or failed GLC-I. Attendance in the first class is essential to ensure that you understand the course structure.
その他
The course is available in five-point grading scale (of A+, A, B, C, or F) or pass/fail grading (P/F). This course code is for five-point grading. If you wish to use pass/fail grading, please enrol under the course code ending "PF"
