グローバル教養科目（Photographing Tokyo: Looking at One’s Place in the Urban Landscape）

The class time will consist of lectures on photographic techniques, the history of photography and landscape painting, and the history of Tokyo, and presentations and discussions of student photographs. There may be optional visits to museums outside of class time.

If the Course Code ends with “-P/F”, this is a Pass/Fail Course.】 Assignments will consist of photographic projects to be carried out on students' free time outside of class. From these photographs, students will put together a portfolio to present to the class at the end of the semester.

【If the number of students enrolling in this course exceeds the number determined by the instructor, there may be a selection process. Instructions for the selection process will be given in the first class, so if you are interested in taking this course, please be sure to attend the first class.】 Enrolment for this course is limited. Interested students must attend the first week and bring some photographs to class. While guidance may be given on film photography and printing, the assumption is that students will primarily use a digital camera. Unfortunately, the university does not provide any specialized facilities for this course. Students wishing to use film must bear the cost of film, and development, printing scanning or darkroom rental, as desired. Students with questions or concerns are welcome to email the professor before the start of classes.

Students should own or plan to buy a camera to use for the class, not including a smartphone. They should bring a device to class with a large screen, such as a laptop or tablet, to present images.
