グローバル教養科目(Disinformation, Fake News, and Post-Truth Politics in a Global Context)

Disinformation, Fake News, and Post-Truth Politics in a Global Context
In this course, we will examine how disinformation and related terms such as "fake news" operate in different political and cultural contexts. To gain a better understanding of the ways that disinformation has been produced and employed to shape public opinion and advance ideological interests, we will explore a wide array of recent case studies that include: the rise of right-wing populists such as Donald Trump; election interference in the U.S. and Taiwan; the COVID-19 pandemic; the military conflicts in Eastern Europe (Russia-Ukraine) and the Middle East (Israel-Hamas); among others. This course will discuss these issues through academic readings and primary sources that include newspaper articles, online databases, social media posts, photographs, and short films. These sources will enable us to reflect on the distinct cultural understandings on disinformation and how they affect our perception of the world.
