国際公共政策実践研究(International Field Workshop in Asia)

This course provides students with opportunities to discuss current public policy issues with officials, managerial staff, and experts in government agencies, international organizations, business entities, NPOs, and research institutions in Asia with the following four objectives. First, it helps students identify today’s public policy challenges and learn how to design solutions. Second, it assists students to develop skills to communicate professionally—in written and oral forms—and moderate a meeting discussion. Third, it encourages students to learn how to deliver their messages among public policy practitioners and general public. Fourth, it gives students opportunities to network with professionals to broaden their future career potential.

授業計画
The field workshop is tentatively scheduled for August 2022 in a virtual format.
授業の方法
This course is organized as a series of discussion sessions with officials, managerial staff, and experts in government agencies, international organizations, business entities, NPOs, and research institutions in Asia. Under the guidance of the instructor with the given overarching theme, students are required to prepare a proposal for discussion on public policy issues with counterparts at a target organization of their choice. In their own discussion sessions, students are asked to lead and moderate a meeting discussion. Each student is also required to submit a blogpost-style report on the chosen topic enriched by discussion during the field workshop. The total number of students allowed to participate will be limited up to about eight due to the nature of the course involving a series of intensive discussion.The instructor will decide target organizations on the basis of student proposal. Examples of the past host organizations by location are as follows. China: Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), ByteDance, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS), CITIC Group Corporation Ltd, International Economics and Finance Institute (IEFI), Megvii Technology, and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) China India: Bangalore Political Action Committee (B.PAC), Biocon, Indian Council for Research on International Economic Relations (ICRIER), Indian Institute of Management Bangalore, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore (IISc), and Infosys Indonesia: University of Indonesia and World Bank Country Office in Indonesia Singapore: ASEAN+3 Macroeconomic Research Office (AMRO), Centre for Livable Cities (CLC), Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore, NUS Satellite Program, and World Bank Group Singapore Office Philippines—Asian Development Bank (ADB), Association of Development Financing Institutions in Asia and the Pacific (ADFIAP), International Rice Research Institute (IRRI), Philippine Institute for Development Studies (PIDS), SEAFDEC Aquaculture Department (SEAFDEC/AQD), and WHO Regional Office of the Western Pacific Thailand: Mae Fah Luang Foundation under Royal Patronage, National Health Security Office (NHSO), Thailand Development Research Institute (TDRI), and United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP)

履修上の注意
Students willing to take this course need to pass a pre-registration screening to be held before the S2 registration period (June 10-16). To help students better understand the objective and procedure, an information session will be held in mid-May. Please do not count credits for this course to satisfy your completion requirements if you plan to graduate in September 2022.
