Research Design Seminar
Given the increasingly complex world, one discipline is insufficient to address most policy challenges. This course
(and the companion course, Project Seminars), aimed primarily at Ph.D. candidates, adopts an interdisciplinary
perspective while pursuing high academic standards for specialty training. Our focus is to demonstrate how
specialized disciplines identify research questions, shape hypotheses, and deploy appropriate research methods to
answer the questions.

1. Introduction and class administration
2. First-year student presentations: Each first-year student presents once.
o Review masterpieces relating to the student's thesis.
o Define the research question and propose the methodology for the thesis topic.
3. Second-year student presentations: Each second-year student presents twice.
o Present the thesis draft
o Final presentations to expert commentators.
授業の方法
Instructors provide feedback on students' research designs and presentations, encourage peer-to-peer learning and questioning among students, and hold specialized seminars for students presenting to expert commentators.

Specialized sessions with econ-stream presentations scheduled on Friday (10:25 am) and others on Tuesdays
(2:55 pm).
Both Seminars have their first meeting on October 3, Tuesday (2:55 pm).
