地域文化論Ⅱ

LGBT Rights in Australia: How the rights of LGBT people in Australia are respected and protected (or not)
There have always been LGBT people, but how they have been treated in Australia has varied over time. For example, gay men used to be vilified and persecuted, but these days there is greater understanding and acceptance of diverse sexual orientations. Nowadays, it is trans and gender diverse people who are increasingly being attacked and targeted in hate crimes.

This course will introduce students to LGBT communities in Australia and how they are treated by society, governments and the law. Each class will focus on a particular aspect of queer life in Australia; the good, the bad and the ugly.

By the end of this course students will have achieved an understanding of LGBT life and culture in Australia, and be able to identify where Australia is doing well in protecting the human rights of LGBT people and where more needs to be done.

No prior study of Australia or LGBT people and culture is required to successfully complete this course
