Case Study (Foreign Policy of Japan)
The International community and the Asia Pacific region in particular is going through rapid structural changes which represent both opportunities and challenges to the region and to the world. This course will review and discuss various aspects of the contemporary Japanese foreign policy toward Asia Pacific and beyond.
Throughout the course, the lecturer, a former diplomat, will endeavor to share with the students his experience as a practitioner. As appropriate, guest speakers will be invited to discuss current affairs.

授業の方法
lecture, oral presentation by the students and discussion.

成績評価方法
Students will be assessed on the following components.
1) Students are expected to actively participate in class discussion.
Repeated absence or late arrival to the class will adversely affect one’s final grade.
2) Each student is required to make oral presentation during the course.
Each student will choose the topic of presentation from the three general themes.
Theme A: regional integration/cooperation in Asia
Theme B: Soft power
Theme C: The economics and the foreign policy
The detail of the presentation will be announced during the course.
The date of presentation is subject to change depending, for example, on the schedule
of guest speakers.
3) Students are required to submit the final report. The detail will be announced during the
course.

履修上の注意
The lecturer would like to limit the size of the class to 15 students at maximum. Those who
intend to register with the class are required to be present at the class on September 30. If the number of the students present exceeds 15, there will be a draw on the spot to determine who will be able to register with the class.
