Introduction to Academic Writing

To study the grammar and vocabulary necessary for academic work in English. Students will begin to build their ability to recognize correct language structures and progressively work on producing more and more complex grammar.
Topics in this course will include defining, comparing, punctuation rules, summarizing, commenting on data, describing causal relationships and processes, and proposing solutions. Concepts learned in this course will be applicable to longer pieces of academic writing. Toward this end, various types of essays will be explored: process, cause and effect, contrast, argumentative, etc.
