Economic Structural Policy and Abenomics
This course will examine the essential elements of "Structural Policy" and Japan’s experience through 1945 to today. The class will examine and evaluate Abenomics（economic policy of Abe administration）..
Every state tries various policies to achieve higher economic of growth. However, the concrete measures are different reflecting the environment or the stage of their development. Japan’s experience provides rich materials. Japan achieved very rapid economic growth without any important resources other than labor force. She experienced various stage of development in short period of time. Then the globalization changed the paradigm.
After examining conceptual framework for growth policy, we will walk through the high growth period, bubble and “lost decades”. Then we will examine and evaluate Abenomics. In the process, we will look into the impact of the globalization. Then guest speakers will pick up the agenda for economic reform and other contemporary challenges.
The class will be conducted in English. Student will be expected to make short presentation in the class, and to participate in the class discussion.
