Global Citizens & Sustainable Society)

Global Citizens & Sustainable Society
What is it that we can do as "global citizens" to tackle the universal issues to build a more sustainable future??

・前UNDRR(国連防災)長 水鳥真美さん

What is it that we can do as "global citizens" to tackle the universal issues to build a more sustainable future??
With these questions in mind, we have been exploring the concept of “global citizens” alongside you, our students, building on the idea of “global talent.”

In this academic year’s Seminar, we will focus on what will be required of the international community after 2030 and how students should spread their wings to meet those demands, while hearing from a variety of guests who are active on the international stage.
In particular, this year we intend to focus on “culture.”
Amid the ever-changing landscape of international politics, our goal is to consider what kind of person constitutes a global citizen in the 21st century and to propose a new vision of the global citizen developed by the students themselves.
To realize a sustainable society, we will engage directly with the qualities required of global citizens and what is necessary to build a sustainable society beyond 2030 through discussions with individuals who have blazed their own trails across borders in various fields.

The guests we have invited in the past have had the following backgrounds:
・Director Mami Mizutori, former Executive Director of UNDRR (United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction)
・Experts in international humanitarian aid
・Professionals working at international organizations, government agencies, and NGOs
・Members of Parliament (Mongolia)
・Researchers at universities and research institutions (Singapore, the United States, Japan)
・Businesspeople expanding their operations overseas

This year, we will invite leaders from around the world who are active in the field of “culture.”

Objectives:
The goal is to learn from and systematize the factors—such as tools, mindsets, skills, and experiences—required of so-called “global citizens,” drawing on the experiences of mentors who have blazed trails across borders and existing initiatives aimed at fostering such individuals. Building on this, students will articulate the factors necessary to address social issues and global situations both domestically and internationally, and—with an eye toward the future beyond 2030—student-led initiatives will define the qualities required of “global citizens.”

Learning Objectives:
1: Understand and critically analyze the various elements and conditions required of a “global citizen.”
2: Through dialogue with individuals already active on the global stage, identify the factors required of a “global citizen” and consider how to define them.
3: Consider the factors required to cultivate “global citizens,” as well as the tools and environments necessary to acquire them, and formulate a definition.
