Perspectives on Law (法のパースペクティブ)：Japanese Law as Viewed from Abroad
For over a century, Western scholars have pursued scholarship on Japanese law. Foreign scholars have produced many excellent works exploring various fields of Japanese law, frequently approaching subjects from perspectives other than those commonly found within Japan. In this course, we will read and discuss leading works on Japanese law written by foreign scholars. The readings will include works from various perspectives, including sociological, historical, economic, and practice-related perspectives. For a few class sessions, depending on availability, foreign scholars will be invited as guest speakers.
NOTE: This class will be conducted entirely in English. Heavy emphasis will be placed on class discussion.

授業の方法
①双方向的授業を中心に行う
②その他（There will be a heavy emphasis on interactive discussion. In addition, team-based exercises, including debates between teams, will be utilized for some sessions.）
成績評価方法
Grading will be based upon class performance, including oral reports, participation in class discussion, and reactions/comments regarding each week's readings and discussion, via Google Docs (30%); on one short written report (of approximately 5 pages, due by mid-June) (20%); and on one longer written report (15-20 pages, due by late July) (50%).

Reading materials will consist of excerpts from works on Japanese law by foreign scholars.
Reading materials will be compiled and distributed. All readings will be in English.
