Comparative Analysis of Japanese Economic Policy-Making Process

The objective of this course is to understand Japanese economic policy-making process from comparative perspective through the analysis of post-war economic development including Abenomics.
While policymaking process is essentially determined by the interaction of history, national value system and institution, economic policy is heavily influenced by the coalition of legislator, relevant executive officials and interest groups with some participation of public. After walking through the establishment of basic structure at Meiji Restoration and major modification, we will compare Japanese system with other major economies including US and UK.

Class will be conducted in English. Students are encouraged to actively participate in the class.
