Gender, sexuality and society in Japan
The aim of this course is to enable students to read and critically engage with academic articles in English on gender-related issues. In class, students will discuss minority issues in Japan, particularly gender equality, LGBTQ+ issues, sexual harassment and migrant workers, and compare how these issues are understood in Japan and other countries. By the end of the course, students will collect data on a topic covered in class through readings and/or interviews or surveys, and write a report based on their findings.
