応用日本語(5): 中級総合２(L4-L3)/ Applied Japanese (5): Comprehensive Intermediate Japanese 2(L4-L3)
Students enrolled are expected to have mastered the intermediate level language skills and functions and are ready to proceed to the pre-advanced level Japanese. This course is designed to help students extend their abilities in everyday and academic interactions in Japanese. Structured instruction will help students to develop reading, speaking and writing language skills，as well as to expand knowledge and usage of Kanji, vocabulary and expressions, using the materials on various aspects of the contemporary Japanese society, so that students will be able to:
(1) read authentic, modern Japanese texts on three topics on Japanese society;
(2) participate in discussions on three topics in Japanese;
(3) become familiar with idiomatic expressions and terms that are frequently used in newspapers, magazines and books;
(4) make oral presentations, gain a natural fluency in speech, write short essays and distinguish clearly between the written and spoken languages.

Details will be provided in the first class meeting.
*15 minutes after class will be set aside for questions.
*After the orientation of the first class, Unit 2 warm-up assignment will be explained.
Students who fail to submit it by the deadline will not be able to resister for the course.
*The maximum number of students in each Japanese class is limited in principle to fifteen.
Those who attend the first class will be prioritized for registration.
Prioritization for registration will be determined based on the students’ status as follows.
First-day attendees who submitted Unit 2 warm-up > L4 >L3 >PEAK> KOMSTEP>USTEP-U

Reading authentic materials, learning pre-advanced level grammar and vocabulary followed by oral and writing exercises.

Designated PEAK Senior, KOMSTEP and USTEP-U L4-L3 students are only eligible to take this course.
*It is NOT allowed to take both this course and Integrated Japanese (L4) (L3) for reasons of overlap.
*Students who have taken Integrated Japanese (4) or(3) before or at the same time this semester are NOT allowed to register for this course.
