Information, Technology, and Society in Asia 211

This course introduces students to affect and sensory studies. In recent years, emotions and the senses have become vibrant topics of research across a range of disciplines, including the humanities, social sciences, biology, and psychology. Scholars in these growing fields have highlighted the importance of understanding how technological, economic, and cultural changes have shaped emotional and sensory experiences. However, due to the interdisciplinary nature of the field, there is no consensus on its theoretical foundations or methodological approaches.
This course aims to help students engage with the key theories and methodologies used in affect and sensory studies and critically assess whether—and how—these fields contribute to expanding and deepening existing scholarly knowledge.
