気象海象学基礎

気象海象学基礎 Metocean fundamentals for Engineers
“Metocean” refers to meteorology and oceanography in offshore and coastal engineering communities. This lecture aims to provide fundamentals of meteorology and oceanography for students in marine engineering and related fields. The goal of the lecture is to provide an overview of how the physical parameters are analyzed to derive information relevant for design and operation of marine structures and ships, development of marine renewable energy, assessment of environmental impacts, and monitoring of the past, current, and future sea states. Basics of visualization and statistical analysis will be provided as well.

授業の方法
The lectures will be given by Professors Waseda, Wada, and Kodaira. Waseda covers the fundamentals of physical oceanography, meteorology, and climate, and Wada relates those knowledge to engineering disciplines. At each lecture, assignments will be given to augment necessary knowledge an skill that cannot be covered by the lecture.
成績評価方法
GRADE: Homework assignments are given every lecture. The students are required to submit the assignment within 2 weeks. Late submission is accepted but the grades will be halved. There will be no exam or end-term report. Text books are introduced at every lecture. Submit your assignment to the UTOL
履修上の注意
NOTE: The language used in the lecture is English and all the lecture materials will be in English. However, provided that all the students are fluent in reading, writing, and speaking in Japanese, a part of the lectures may be given in Japanese.
