災害とリスクの過程分析／ Disaster and Risk Process Analysis
To understand the mechanism how natural disasters are caused in the social system, and to obtain skill to analyze the mechanism, process and causes, so that he/she can discuss the mitigation strategy.
It consists from two parts. The first part aims to learn basic knowledge about natural disasters as social events.
- Factors and mechanism that cause disasters
- Concept of Pressure and Release Model (at Risk) etc.
The second part is mainly group work for the case studies.

The class will start on April 9th.
1. What are natural disasters? What should be done?
2. Complexity, sustainability and vulnerability in natural disasters
3. Data (facts) of disasters, risk perception and risk management
4. Vulnerability and resilience
5. Access Model, Pressure and Release Model
6. Institutions and risk reduction tools
7. Review of disaster cases; Group work
8. Case Studies; Group work
授業の方法
Class will consists from lecture and discussion, and group work.
Reading assignment and short report will be given (almost every) week during the first half of the class.
成績評価方法
Evaluation will be based on weekly report, final reports, presentation, and your contribution to the discussion in the class.

Those who have taken "Disaster and Risk Process Analysis I/II" are not eligible for this course.
You are supposed to
(1) read the assignment papers in advance, when specified.
(2) prepare the preliminary survey and prepare for the discussion when the group work is scheduled.
