Introduction to Crystallography
Crystals are found everywhere in nature. Their beauty has captivated people throughout history and across cultures. The development of crystallography, beginning with the discovery of X-rays, has enabled us to understand the arrangement of atoms-the crystal structure-and to “see” chemical bonds and examine physical phenomena. Through this course, you will acquire fundamental knowledge, including the concepts of symmetry and space groups, the calculation of crystal structure factors, and the use of the International Tables, and experience actual crystal structure analysis. No textbook is assigned. Lectures will be conducted in person using slides based on crystallography-related reference books. Grades will be based on attendance points and short tests administered during lectures. There will be instances where PCs are used during lectures.
