Synchrotron Radiation Research
X-rays and soft X-rays with short wavelengths are useful probes for studying the atomic and molecular structure and electronic state of materials. In the same way that brilliant light is required to see an object clearly, intense X-rays can give previously unobservable information about the structural and electronic states of materials. Synchrotron radiation is a continuous light that is significantly brighter than typical X-rays and pulsed light and has high polarization. It is widely employed in both research and industry in the fields of physics, chemistry, biology, and medicine. This lecture will focus mostly on physicochemistry, diffraction, and X-ray spectroscopy, which are essential to the application of synchrotron radiation. The fundamental information required to conduct experiments involving synchrotron radiation will also be explained.
