農業資源経済学特論CⅡ (Agricultural and Resource Economics CⅡ)

In this seminar, we will read selected chapters of the following textbooks.

Belleflamme, P. and Peitz, M. (2015) Industrial Organization: Markets and Strategies (2nd edition). Ch.2, 3, 5, 12, 17.
Aguirregabiria (2021) Empirical Industrial Organization Models, Methods, and Applications. Ch.1, 2, 3, 4.

The seminar introduces both the theoretical foundations and empirical methods of industrial organization. Topics include price and quantity competition, product differentiation, asymmetric information, vertical relationships, demand estimation, production functions, and the measurement of market power. These tools are highly relevant to agricultural and food markets, where farmers often trade with a small number of input suppliers, processors, wholesalers, and retailers. By linking economic models with data, students will learn how to analyze issues such as bargaining power, market concentration, food-industry competition, and vertical contracts.
