The spread and advancement of IT has brought a steady stream of new products and services into our everyday lives — ones that can, at times, dramatically reshape our lifestyles or even upend the very framework of business itself. As buyers or users, it is easy enough to simply enjoy the benefits that such products and services provide. It is far harder, however, to be the one who creates a product or service that excites and opens the eyes of buyers and users. This seminar's aim, then, is precisely this: to try our hand at creating something — a product or service — that makes buyers and users exclaim, "This is amazing!", "This is so convenient," "This feels great," or "This is fun." Our hope is that participants will start out at the level of "I gave it a try" and, ultimately, work their way up to a level of creation that is conscious of the "social goal" a product or service is meant to fulfill. Accordingly, when joining the seminar, participants are asked to come in with a concrete goal in mind as to what they want to challenge themselves with. Based on each participant's individual goals, I also intend to arrange guidance from outside experts and site visits to relevant locations. In addition, once a product or idea has been built or devised, the plan is to have prospective users try it out and provide feedback. Furthermore, this seminar has a track record of supporting student entrepreneurship, and warmly welcomes students who wish to take on the challenge of starting a business.

In this course, we value students' autonomy and allow each participant to manage their projects based on the themes they wish to pursue. The primary objective of this course is for students to plan, create, and present their own products or services, ultimately testing their value in society. Additionally, students are encouraged to work on projects related to solving social issues, volunteer activities, or planning and implementing events. A key emphasis of this course is active engagement with society. We strongly encourage students to collaborate with various companies and organizations to achieve their project goals. By working with external businesses and institutions, students can gain valuable insights from experts, as well as practical knowledge on "what is currently new, what should be learned, and what should be prioritized." Therefore, rather than simply assembling a kit and confirming its functionality, students should consider who will use their product or service and how it will be used. Similarly, rather than merely discussing social issues, they should aim to design, develop, and implement services or systems that contribute to solving these problems. Through this process, they will have the opportunity to present the value of their work to the world. Many startups have emerged from this course, and rather than seeking quick financial gain, these ventures have focused on demonstrating the value of what they have created to society. Students interested in enrolling should come with a clear and specific theme in mind. If they wish to join an existing project within the course, they should have a well-defined understanding of how they can contribute to that project. The course follows a structure in which each project adheres to a predefined roadmap. Progress is reviewed weekly, and necessary actions are determined and executed before the next session. Mere attendance is not sufficient—active commitment is required, so students should be aware of this in advance. Furthermore, this course does not accommodate requests for assistance in finding sales channels for student-created products or services. However, we do provide guidance on developing marketing and branding strategies for commercialization. We also actively support projects aiming to expand into international markets. ※【Creativity Engineering Project for Undergraduate, Creativity Engineering Project】 This course offers students the opportunity to improve their skills in team management and project execution as well as technical knowledge in specific engineering domains through participation in competitions, business creation, and social implementation of engineering skills.
The course begins with each participant defining the theme of their own project and articulating its specific direction (goals). Participants will then be asked to lay out a clear roadmap covering both the semester timeline and the period beyond it. In subsequent sessions, participants will present progress on their projects and, drawing on advice and feedback from the instructor and fellow participants, determine the concrete actions to be taken going forward. Because participants are required to present progress at every session, the project theme must be chosen carefully. Selecting a theme that is too vague or unfocused will not only make it difficult to present meaningful progress each time, but will also make it harder to receive useful feedback, leaving the project adrift. That said, grappling with uncertainty is itself an important part of the learning process. It is essential to make the effort to articulate one's own thinking in words, to repeatedly engage in trial and error and brainstorming on the technical or business challenges at hand, and to clearly explain what kind of support is needed and to actively seek it out.

As a prerequisite for taking this course, participants are required to clearly articulate the social goal they aim to achieve through their project. Before deciding on a project theme, participants should thoroughly ask themselves questions such as: Who will this bring joy to? Who will this entertain? Who will this encourage? Whom will this stand beside and support? Who will this offer peace of mind to? Whose future will this help illuminate a path for? Whose burden or suffering will this help ease? Whom will this be devoted to serving? Whom will this inspire and help get back on their feet? Who will this offer learning to? And what can be done for the world and for the people in it? Only after fully considering these questions should participants settle on their project theme and enroll in the course. Where possible, participants are also encouraged to form groups in advance and take the course as a team.
