言語・文化的バックグラウンドの異なる学生とチームを組み、プロジェクトを進めることで、グローバル人材に必要とされる(1)語学力・コミュニケーション能力、(2)主体性、批判的思考、 (3)異文化に対する理解を身につけます。
※テーマはテクノロジーを介した外国語学習ですが、外国語を学ぶ授業ではありません。英語「で」言語学習のプロセスについて学び、その知識に基づいて言語学習アプリを分析し、最終的には新たなアプリを提案する授業です。課題を国際チームで進めるプロジェクト型の授業です。

Through working in teams with students from different linguistic and cultural backgrounds, you will develop the following skills essential for becoming a global citizen:
(1) language proficiency and communication skills,
(2) autonomy and critical thinking, and
(3) intercultural understanding.
Note: While the theme of the course is language learning, this is not a course to learn a language. Rather, you will learn about the process of language learning in English, analyze existing language learning apps based on that knowledge, and ultimately propose a new app.

授業計画
Computer-Assisted Language Learning（CALL／コンピューター支援言語学習）は、テクノロジーを活用して外国語学習をより効果的にする方法を探究する研究分野です。本授業では、第二言語習得（SLA）理論を学びながら、Duolingo、DeepL、Virtual Reality（VR）、DMM英会話など、さまざまな言語学習ツールや学習法を分析します。2026年度は特に、AI（人工知能）がこの分野にどのような変化をもたらしているのかに注目し、授業を進めていきます。最終プロジェクトでは、SLA理論に基づいた知見を活かし、新たな言語学習ツールを提案してもらいます。
この授業では「協働」も重要な要素のひとつです。課題は、東京大学の日本人学生や留学生、そしてフィリピン大学の学生で構成される国際チームで協力しながら進めていきます。講義は英語で行われますが、グループワークにおいては、メンバーの言語背景に応じて日本語やその他の言語を使用することも可能です。

Computer-Assisted Language Learning (CALL) is a field that explores how technology can enhance the effectiveness of foreign language learning. In this course, we will examine key theories of Second Language Acquisition (SLA) while analyzing a range of language learning tools and methods, including Duolingo, DeepL, Virtual Reality (VR), and DMM Eikaiwa. In the 2026 academic year, we will place particular emphasis on how artificial intelligence (AI) is reshaping the landscape of language education. For the final project, you will apply your understanding of SLA theory to propose an original language learning tool.
Collaboration is a central component of this course. You will work in international teams made up of Japanese and international students from the University of Tokyo, as well as students from the University of the Philippines. While lectures will be conducted in English, group work may be carried out in Japanese or other languages, depending on the linguistic backgrounds of your team members.
