Intellectual Property and Innovation Management

Innovation can be defined as value creation with something new. Intellectual property plays an essential role both in creating value to the market and society and in capturing and protecting value for business development, which allows further development in technology and business. This course teaches an overview of intellectual property and innovation management and relating issues with specific sectors including manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, and information and communications technologies. This course also teaches patent analytics to sense patent landscape, to seize business opportunities and to reconfigure resource allocation.

This course offers a comprehensive and theoritical overview on intellectual property (IP) and innovation management. It also focuses on managerial practices including R&D planning and analytics, IP strategy, and university start-ups. Selected topics on the frontiers of innovation in AI, sustainability, and healthcare are also illustrated. In adition to the lectures on the above, students are expected to be actively contribute to the classes and group presnetations for solidifing understanding and developing practical skills.
