To learn a theoretical framework for enhancing architectural design capabilities.
To learn design, both studio practice and lectures are indispensable.
Design is fundamentally an act of integration, and such integration can only be acquired through repeated attempts. It is similar to learning how to ride a bicycle. Some grasp the balance relatively quickly, while others require more time. However, the speed at which one acquires this skill bears no direct correlation to the eventual quality of one’s design work. With sufficient repetition, improvement is inevitable.
For design understood as integration, knowledge plays a crucial role. We can generate ideas only from within the range of what we already know. Therefore, expanding one’s knowledge—at least to a certain extent—is essential to producing meaningful and refined design outcomes. In this lecture, I intend to provide a foundational framework that will enrich and broaden your capacity for creative thought.

The instructor will mainly give explanations using slides. In July, students will be asked to give presentations based on assigned themes.
Evaluation will be based on the presentations. If a student does not give a presentation, no credit will be awarded, even if they have attended the classes.
Students will learn the essential knowledge that graduate students studying architectural design are expected to have. While many of the topics may be fundamental, if you encounter unfamiliar subjects, it is recommended that you further study related materials on your own after class.
