Japanese river management is steering toward "River Basin Disaster Resilience and Sustainability by All (流域治水)," in which all stakeholders are involved in flood control at all locations throughout the basin, and the global voices are repeatedly emphasizing the importance of "Integrated Water Resources Management," in which water-related disaster risk reduction, water supply, and water environment are handled well as an integral part of land-use management and regional development. Considering these circumstances, "River Basin Managements" is offered as a comprehensive course that includes flood control planning and non-structural flood damage reduction measures, vulnerability reduction through land-use regulations and urban planning, lessons learned from recent flood disasters, public consensus, timelines, and consideration of climate change and social transformation, in addition to classical River Engineering.
