[Objectives] To learn how waves and turbulence in ocean are described by equations and how we understand them quantitatively.
[Overview] The ocean is an open system which exchanges heat, freshwater, and momentum fluxes with the atmosphere above, as well as momentum heat and other fluxes with the solid earth underneath. These effects vary in spatial scales of millimeters to tens of thousands of kilometers and in temporal scales of seconds to decades. We learn how the ocean responds to these multitudes of forcings and how we can describe them.
