Theory of Social and Cultural Diversity III

Qualitative Research Method: Diversity and Education
This course is designed to learn theories of qualitative research method in social sciences and practice using it. We will learn theories and concepts of qualitative research method, and practice how to conduct interview, observation, and fieldwork with an understanding of research ethics, and discuss the strength and limitations of the applied method. Each student is expected to practice qualitative research method in a mini-research project and exchange feedback each other. A mini research project includes setting up research questions, doing literature review, designing research method, conducting qualitative research, analyzing the collected data and writing a mini report.

Students will be able to
–Understand the concepts and theories of qualitative research method,
–Conduct qualitative research with attention to research ethics,
–Discuss the strength and limitations of the applied research method, and
–Analyze the collected data.


In this course, the topic of the literature and mini research project will be on diversity and education. However, our focus is of course on the research method, so those who are not doing relevant research in master/doctorate thesis are more than welcomed.

Please attend the online-course guidance in Week1, if you consider taking this course. The course is designed for the students who can attend the class every week. In case where you are absent, please catch up by doing assignment and workshop task.
