History of International Interdependence I
International Politics in East Asia
This course examines the foundations, evolution, and contemporary challenges of regional order in East Asia. It explores the roles of the United States, China, and Japan in shaping the regional security and political environment and analyzes how competing visions of order influence regional dynamics.
Through lecture-based discussions and student presentations, the course addresses key security issues such as the Taiwan Strait, North Korea’s nuclear program, and the South China Sea disputes, as well as broader transnational and historical challenges. Students will engage critically with academic and policy debates, develop independent research questions, and present original research proposals.

・The first session for guidance (10/6) will be online.
・The classroom is located on the 3rd floor of the Institute for Advanced Studies on Asia (Tobunken) at the Hongo campus.
・Enrollment is limited to 12 students. To receive permission to enroll, students must attend the first class session and submit a short assignment.
