Normative Basis of Global Society
The Philosophy of Cosmopolitism
In this course, we will read Martha Nussbaum's qualified defense of cosmopolitanism - the broad idea of an ethical/political stance that transcends cultural differences - and discussions of similar ideals in other philosophical traditions.

We will cover the book "The Cosmopolitan Tradition: A Noble but Flawed Ideal" chapter by chapter, and once we have finished, we will read related articles from other traditions.

Classes will be discussion based.

The grade will be based on participation in class and a final essay.
