Britain and the Outbreak of the First Sino-Japanese War: Examination of British Diplomatic History in the Nineteenth Century
本講義は、19世紀末のイギリス東アジア政策の分析を通じて、大学院生レベルで外交史・国際関係史を研究する上で必要な知識や批評眼を育むことを目的とする。

授業の方法
演習形式。毎回の授業の前に課題文献を提示するので、履修学生はそれを授業前にすべて通読し、授業でその内容について議論すること。
This course will be a seminar. Students must read all the reading assignments prior to classes, and must prepare themselves so that they can discuss about the contents of the literatures.
成績評価方法
履修学生は、授業で扱ったテーマについて自身で文献を調査し、12000字（10ページ）ほどの期末レポートを提出する。その内容を通じて評価する（変更の可能性あり）。
Students must conduct a research on a topic related to the theme of this course, and submit an essay of about 10 pages by the end of the term. They will be evaluated through the contents of their essays (subject of change of plans).
履修上の注意
通常の授業よりも、課題文献の通読に費やす時間は長くなるかと思われる。また、英語の文献も課題として適宜提示するので、そのつもりで取り組むこと。
Students will be spending more time on reading literatures than most other graduate courses, and literatures in English will be assigned.
