広域文明形成論I

東南アジアにおける現代問題 / Contemporary Issues of Southeast Asia
This course offers an opportunity for students to examine contemporary issues of Southeast Asia, and to pursue a research or topic of their specific interest. The course will focus on students' selected interests and take on an interdisciplinary approach.

Some highly relevant topics in today's world could include ASEAN regionalism; education as soft power, ethnicity and religion in multicultural and multireligious Southeast Asia; Japan/China and Southeast Asia in the 21st Century; media, technology, and society; climate change and energy transitions; external powers and regional security.

授業計画
The first class will be dedicated to clarifying the learning aims/needs of registered students and to understand the levels of abilities we have as a class together. In the next few classes, we will have an overview of the historical background and major contemporary issues, followed by topic-based or country-based classes based on students' interests.
授業の方法
This course is centred on students' interests and the syllabus (including schedule and assessment) will therefore be created together from the first class. The main language used by all members of the class will be English. Students are welcome to use this course as part of another work (thesis, etc.). But prior to that, please discuss the way forward with me, for you to operate in accordance with the ethics of research and academia. 成績評価方法
(Tentative) Class Participation, Weekly Reflection Summaries & Effort: 50% Presentation and student-led discussion: 30% Gallery Walk and Peer Feedback: 20% (Subject to number of registered students)
