言語習得論演習V

Ideology and Language Education
This seminar-style course will explore the concept of ideology in relation to second-language education. Often proposed solutions to fundamental issues in language education, such as "What languages should be taught?," "Who should learn or teach other languages?," and "What should the goals of language education be?," are perceived as being rooted in the ideologies held by the people proposing those solutions. We will begin this course with a brief introduction to the history and meanings of the term ideology. We will then use that framework to try to come to a deeper understanding how ideological issues are intertwined with language education.

授業計画
The schedule will be decided as the semester proceeds. The first class meeting will be held using Zoom beginning at 15:00 on Friday, April 10; this class meeting will be spent primarily making sure that the online connection works properly and with informal discussions among the teacher and students. We will decide then whether to begin the regular class on April 17 or to spend that day as well on online tests. The Zoom URL for the April 10 class appears on the class website (see オンライン授業URL/Online Class URL); if you cannot access that site, e-mail Tom Gally to ask for the URL.
