日独研究特別研究I

Governing in Germany and the European Union
This seminar surveys government in the Federal Republic of Germany and the European Union. While they represent quite different cases, both have complex arrangements for governing, with division of powers among multiple institutions and with multiple levels. The range of topics spans from governmental institutions (e.g. legislative, executive, judicial) and collective actors (e.g. parties, interest groups), to political levels (e.g. regional/Länder, federal, supranational) in the German and EU cases. The course follows another particular interest in comparative perspectives and approaches. Accordingly, the course aims to help students gain and improve their familiarity with the specific cases (EU and Germany), but also the study of political systems and comparative government.
Prior knowledge, competences and similar regarding the German and EU political systems is not a pre-requisite for participation. Furthermore, the course language is English. However, there will be much time dedicated to discussing the texts and terminology. Moreover, those who wish to write their papers (Hausarbeit) in this course may choose to do so in either English or German.
