人間の安全保障演習I

LGBT Culture in the Asia-Pacific region
This course examines LGBT culture across countries in the Asia-Pacific region, with a focus on how LGBT culture and rights are respected by society and protected by law.

LGBT culture can refer to a broad range of concepts, including history, language/vocabulary, bars, pride events, art and sport. It is likely to differ from country to country. Societal attitudes and legal protections do not always align to protect LGBT culture, and may even be hostile to it.

The first part of the course introduces students to LGBT culture and how it is expressed, celebrated and protected.

The second part of the course focuses on country case studies of specific cultural experiences, including in Australia, China, Thailand, Samoa and Japan.

Students do not need to have undertaken any prior study of LGBT culture or law to successfully complete this course.
