本授業では、異なる言語や文化的バックグラウンドを持つ学生とチームを組み、外国語学習を支援するテクノロジーについて考察し、プロジェクトを進めます。このプロセスを通じて、グローバル人材に求められる以下の能力を養います：
1. 語学力およびコミュニケーション能力
2. 主体性および批判的思考力
3. 異文化理解力
※本授業のテーマは「テクノロジーを介した外国語学習」ですが、外国語自体を学ぶ授業ではありません。国際的なチームメンバーと英語で意思疎通しながら、外国語学習に関するプロジェクトを進める形式の授業です。

Computer-Assisted Language Learning
In this course, students will collaborate with students from diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds to explore technology that supports foreign language learning. Through hands-on project work, participants will develop the following key skills needed for success as global professionals:
1. Language and communication skills
2. Learner autonomy and critical thinking abilities
3. Cross-cultural understanding
Note: While the course theme revolves around technology-mediated language learning, this is not a foreign language learning class. Instead, students will advance their projects related to language learning in English through international collaboration.

コンピュータ支援言語学習 (CALL: Computer-Assisted Language Learning)
CALLは、テクノロジーを活用して外国語学習を効率化する方法を探求する研究分野です。本授業では、「第二言語習得理論 (Second Language Acquisition Theories)」の基礎知識を学び、Duolingo、バーチャルリアリティ (VR)、オンライン英会話、そしてAIを搭載した言語学習ツール（ChatGPTなど）を含む既存の外国語学習方法やツールをCALLの視点から分析します（2025年は特にAIにフォーカスする予定です）。最終課題では、ニーズ分析の結果と第二言語習得理論をもとに、外国語学習アプリのコンテンツやツールのプロトタイプを制作します。
これらの活動は国際的なグループプロジェクトとして、東大の留学生や海外の大学生と協働して実施します。講義は基本的に英語で行われますが、グループワークはチームメンバーの言語背景に応じて英語または日本語で進める場合があります。互いの言語的・文化的資源を活用しながらプロジェクトを進めることで、グローバルな視点、批判的思考、そしてチームワークのスキルを養うことを目指します。

CALL is a research field dedicated to optimizing foreign language learning through technology, addressing the central question: How can technology be best incorporated into language learning and teaching? In this course, you will gain foundational knowledge of Second Language Acquisition (SLA) theories and analyze existing language learning tools and methods (e.g., Duolingo, VR, online English conversation platforms, and AI-powered tools like ChatGPT) from the perspective of CALL. For the final project, you will apply findings from your needs analysis and SLA theories to create a content and prototype for a language learning app .
This course emphasizes collaborative international project work with partners who may be Japanese students at UTokyo, international students at UTokyo, or students from overseas universities. Lectures will be conducted in English; however, group work may be carried out in English or Japanese, depending on your group members’ language backgrounds. By utilizing each other’s linguistic and cultural resources, students are expected to develop a global mindset, critical thinking abilities, and teamwork skills.
