To scientists, being able to measure and analyze our environment is one of the most important capabilities. This course focuses on the methods and technologies used to accurately and precisely measure the properties of real-world samples, ranging from determining the concentration of heavy metal ions in river water to measuring the concentration of a drug molecule in a blood sample and determining the concentration of pollutant gases in the atmosphere. The course builds on existing knowledge of fundamental chemical principles and has a practical focus, which will be particularly useful to students with an interest in environmental science.
