応用日本語(8)(PEAK)

Applied Japanese (8): Writing and Speech (L4-5)
This course is designed for students whose Japanese language levels are intermediate (L4-L5). The aim of this course is to provide students with the writing and speaking skills they need for different purposes. They will explore and practice writing and speaking in a variety of situations in order to communicate their intended meaning. Students will develop their confidence and skills receiving feedback on their production and performance from their instructor and the other participants.

The objectives of this course are:
1) to understand the basic structure of an essay and speech,
2) to put into active use their knowledge of previously leaned grammar, vocabulary and expressions,
3) to increase lexical and grammatical knowledge of intermediate Japanese,
4) to express own ideas and contribute to constructive discussions,
5) to identify and monitor the strength and weakness of the own language ability, and
6) to gauge own Japanese learning progress.

授業計画
Details will be provided in the first class. Note: 15 minutes before class will be set aside for questions, and students who wish to ask questions during that period should submit them in advance via the UTOL.
授業の方法
Student initiatives are important in this course. Class activities will include oral presentations such as speeches and discussions, writing a short essay, conducting simple research. To build your vocabulary and develop your Japanese communication skills, practice and self-study are essential. Through the feedback and peer review, students are expected to critique on their work, and keep improving their performance in a structured learning process.
成績評価方法
The performance on following items will be taken into account for the course grade: 1) Participation in class activities 20% 2) Writing Assignments 30% 3) Speeches 25% 4) Final presentation and essay 25%
履修上の注意
Preparation for each class meeting is essential. This course is offered to PEAK Group3 L4-L5 students only. KOMSTEP/USTEP L4-L5 students are eligible to take this course.
