Labor Economics II
Discrete choice models and research workshop in labor economics
About a half of the course is a series of lectures on discrete choice models in labor economics. The other half is labor economics research workshop in which students present their own research and receive feedback from the instructor and other students.

授業計画
The textbook for the lectures is Train (2009), which is downloadable for free from https://eml.berkeley.edu/books/choice2.html. The following topics will be covered.
1. Properties of discrete choice models
2. Logit
3. Probit
4. Numerical maximization
5. Drawing from densities
6. Simulation-assisted estimation
7. EM-algorithms
8. Structural dynamic discrete choice models.
Students will present their own research at least once in the course. The presentation time is 30-45 mins depending on the class size.

Evaluation will be based on programming exercises and presentation.

履修上の注意
Students must have taken Labor Economics I or had equivalent knowledge. Because students are required to present their own research, this course is suitable for the 2nd year master’s or more advanced students.
